Newbie here----can someone fill me in on Ibotta?

I am taking couponing to the extreme recently after a job loss. I have found a lot of amazing deals and gotten some free stuff. Just a quick question about ibotta. I have been to their website, was about to download the app but the reviews were mixed.

Do they actually give you cash or is it gift cards? If gift cards, what kinds of stores are the gift cards for? One of the reviews said they used to give you cash through pay pal but not any longer. Also I'm curious as to how long it takes to get the money. Thanks for any help.

I will also mention ebates.com for anyone who hasn't tried it before. Lots of deals and they mail you an actual check. It is mostly for online purchases but occasionally you can link a credit card through their website and get discounts in store.
